More than 150 people attended the three events held between Friday 17 and Saturday 18 September on the occasion of the final stages of the Community project ARCA ADRIATICA which, within the Interreg programme involving Italy and Croatia, promotes territorial cooperation between the two countries and of which the municipality of San Benedetto del Tronto is a partner. The meetings were organised aiming at making people aware of how the city's natural and cultural, material and immaterial heritage, properly enhanced, is a lever for a sustainable and more balanced territorial development.
The first event took place on Friday afternoon 17 at the fish market auction hall: about 40 people attended the workshop on the restoration of "Tastutina" and "Stella del Mare", two historical boats that have been recovered in our city's shipyards. Speakers included all those who, in various roles, contributed to the restoration of the two boats and a film documenting the various stages of the restoration work was shown.
Sergio Trevisani, local manager of the project, introduced the works with a description of the project; Giuseppe Merlini, head of the historical archives of the Municipality, described the peculiarities of sail fishing in the Adriatic, Eng. Giulio Piergallini of the homonymous shipyard, together with Raffaele Pierucci and Michele Di Carlo, depicted the restoration phases of the two boats; Federico Del Zompo talked about sailing boats as a working tool; the painter Patrizia Capacchietti explained how she painted and customised the sails of the two recovered boats, and the filmmakers Rovero Impiglia and Giacomo Cagnetti described their work of filming the entire restoration phase. At the end, a guided tour of the adjacent Museo del Mare was held, where a station had already been set up to house one of the two restored boats. The evening ended with a dinner prepared by the students of the Professional Hotelier Institute "Filippo Buscemi" and coffee at the Lega Navale headquarters where films about the sea and the local maritime civilisation were shown.
On Saturday morning, about 50 people witnessed the launch of "Tastutina": the boat returned to the water in the harbour docks, in front of the Small Fishing Village. Representatives of Lega Navale sailed on board the restored boat and many spectators followed them in small boats made available by its staff. Some guests were also able to board another boat, i.e. "Palma", which took them out of the port basin while biologist Olga Annibale talked about the biodiversity of our sea.
Finally, in the afternoon, the evocative documentary film "Mother of Sentina", commissioned by the Reserve to Director Francesco De Melis, was projected on the beach in front of the Sentina Reserve's Torre sul Porto. Once again, dozens of people were able to see De Melis' work while listening to the interventions of the President of the Reserve, Ruggero Latini, and the President of the Sentina Association, Albano Ferri.
The event was organised, under the coordination of the municipality, by "EAT" - Excellence Adriatic Tourism", a new organisation that brings together the private sector with associations and non-profit organisations in the field, with the aim of creating initiatives to promote the Adriatic's marine heritage and maritime traditions through tourism. EAT brings together various subjects that are part of the ARCA ADRIATICA Centre of Excellence, the support body for the promotion of the activities that have characterised the implementation of the European project.
